Fibromyalgia
Widespread pain
Fatigue
Sleep disturbance
Poor concentration
Brain fog
Headaches
Numbness, tingling and burning sensations
Fibromyalgia is believed to be a neurobiological disorder that is referred to as central sensitivity syndrome.  It means that pain sensations felt in fibromyalgia are likely due to hypersensitivity of the central nervous system and the way it processes pain.

How acupuncture can help with fibromyalgia pain?

A consensus statement from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) concluded that acupuncture  may be useful as an adjunct treatment or may be an acceptable  alternative treatment  in comprehensive management program for fibromyalgia.

Gently placing dry, thin needles into the skin at the specific points may have multiple effects on the body's biochemistry, nervous system and blood circulation:
  • Acupuncture releases endorphins, which are body's natural pain killers.
  • Acupuncture points can  change brain chemistry, resulting  in higher pain tolerance.
  • Acupuncture improves blood circulation locally and reduces inflammation

Studies have shown that a course of acupuncture  treatments consisting of 6-12 sessions may provide relief for 3 -12 months.
